Well-Child Checks
A Well-Child Check is a proactive health assessment designed to ensure that a child is growing and developing as expected, providing reassurance to parents and early identification of any concerns.
These checks offer families the opportunity to discuss any questions they may have about their child’s development, health, or well-being in a supportive environment.
All appointments are with Consultant Paediatrician Felicity Taylor, who will provide expert guidance and all-round care. Felicity is dedicated to serving the local community, building lasting relationships with families, and ensuring you receive expert medical care, close to home, from someone you trust.
Useful information about Well-Child Checks
Available for children aged 1 to 17 years inclusive, Well-Child consultations can be arranged as a one-off consultation or as part of an annual wellness check to support their ongoing health and development.
A comprehensive assessment is carried out and a personalised management plan can be put in place if needed. This service promotes long-term health and preventive care, allowing parents to be proactive and responsive to their child’s needs.
- For children from the age of 1 to 17 years inclusive by prior appointment only
- Available onsite only at Harpenden Medical and can be booked online or by calling 01582 291828. In the event you cannot find a suitable appointment time, the friendly reception team will assist you with further information
- You do not require a referral and can self-present
- Available as a one-off consultation or as part of an annual wellness check
- Appointments cost £260 and are payable in the clinic following your appointment (card only). Well-Child Checks cannot be funded by health insurance. Any additional charges, such as the cost of any extra tests, will be discussed with you in advance. Any required prescriptions will be included as part of the appointment fee (which will be fillable on a private prescription basis)
- Basic tests included (urine, blood sugar level)
- Appointment length: 60 minutes
- If onward referral to another tertiary specialist is required (e.g. paediatric ENT, paediatric neurology), Felicity can provide advice and facilitate referrals to the most appropriate specialists

Excellent referrals and suggestions were provided for some small issues we wanted to address, and the location of her practice in Harpenden is on a lovely farm (with some alpacas nearby!). Can highly recommend.

What happens during the appointment?
Consultant Paediatrician Felicity Taylor will carry out a full assessment including history and thorough physical examination. Any existing conditions will be managed pro-actively. There will be plenty of time to ask questions, address any concerns, and discuss your child’s well-being.

What should I do if my child needs immediate medical attention?
If your child requires immediate medical attention, call 999 or go to the nearest emergency department (A&E).
